PROJECT/SENIOR PROJECT GEOPHYSICIST (FULL-TIME)

TerraDat Geophysics is one of Europe’s leading specialist independent geophysical survey companies, providing geophysical contracting and consulting services to clients in the energy, geotechnical, civil engineering, mineral, archaeological, and environmental industries.

We specialise in shallow terrestrial geophysical survey techniques, including Microgravity, Ground Penetrating Radar, Magnetics, Electro-magnetics, Seismic and Resistivity profiling, as well as geomatic surveys utilising Terrestrial LiDAR and photogrammetry. We have one of the largest shallow geophysical survey equipment resources in the UK private sector and continue to grow in response to exciting and innovative new applications.

Job Description

TerraDat welcomes applications for a Project/Senior Project Geophysicist to join the team at our head office in Cardiff. In this role, you will be expected to undertake the acquisition and analysis of geophysical data, which may be done as part of a team or by managing a field crew. The site work will be in a range of environments, mainly around the UK but occasionally abroad. You will require the ability to process and interpret geophysical data and write technical reports to an excellent standard.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the design of geophysical projects
  • Organisation and management of geophysical surveys
  • Acquisition and processing of a wide range of geophysical data types, including
  • EM, Magnetic, GPR, Gravity, Resistivity and Seismic
  • Topographic/GPS surveying
  • Management and training of junior staff
  • Client liaison (project planning, presentations and post-job follow-up)
  • Technical report writing
  • Contribution to the company’s R&D interests

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • A good undergraduate degree
  • Either an MSc in geophysics plus postgraduate industrial experience OR a
  • postgraduate degree in geophysics
  • A thorough understanding of environmental/engineering geophysics
  • Excellent time management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of industry-standard software
  • Full UK driving licence
  • The right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Coding skills in either Python, MATLAB or R
  • Experience in commercial environmental and/or geotechnical site investigation

Location and Package

The position is based in our Cardiff head office.

GRADUATE GEOPHYSICIST


Contract type: Full-time (with 6-month probationary period)

Job Description

The role will be to support a Project Geophysicist in performing geophysical surveys, either as part of a team or in an assistant capacity. You will help with both data acquisition, quality control and data processing. 

Following on-the-job tuition, a Graduate Geophysicist is expected to set up and operate complex topographic and geophysical survey equipment, carry out preliminary data quality checks, and review the data. Responsibilities also include equipment maintenance and assisting the Project Geophysicist with data processing and reporting. 

Site work will be in a range of environments, mainly around the UK, but with occasional opportunities for travel abroad. The position is anticipated to commence ASAP.

Qualifications/Experience

Essential
 
A good geoscience degree
A thorough understanding of shallow geophysical methods
Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of geoscience-oriented software packages such as Surfer, Grapher, AutoCAD and QGIS
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and illustrating software such as CorelDRAW, Acrobat, etc.
Full UK driving licence
Current passport
The right to work in the UK

Location
 
The position is located at our head office in Cardiff, U.K.
You will be required to travel to sites across the UK and occasionally abroad
Occasional weekend/night shifts will be required
